The evolution of ecological adaptations is an ongoing process. It seems that whatever form of algorithm dominates the memory becomes a target for exploitation (or defense) by other organisms. When the dominant organism becomes the target of a new form of exploitation or defense, it will loose its dominance to the organism possessing the new adaptation, and the cycle begins again.
