Ecological adaptations arise out of the reality that a predominant feature of the environment is the presence of the digital organisms themselves. Thus digital organisms are able to evolve adaptations to the presence of other organisms, such as parasitism, immunity, cooperation, and cheating. Adaptations have been found for exploiting two valuable resources possessed by digital organisms: CPU time, and information in the form of their genetic (machine) code ([22]).
